Welcome to the Town of Charlton, New York

The town of Charlton is located in the southwest corner of Saratoga County.  It was first part of the Balls Town district in Albany1.  In 1792, one year after the formation of Saratoga County, Charlton was removed from Balls Town district and organized as a separate town.  It borders Schenectady and Montgomery counties and the towns of Galway, Milton, and Ballston.

Charlton has a population of approximately 4,000 on 32.8 square miles, which is 4% of the land in Saratoga County.  The average population in Charlton is 121 per square mile (the average population in Saratoga County is 247 per square mile, the state of NY is 402 per square mile and US as a whole is 80 per square mile).  Click here for more details.  Click here for the Supervisor’s welcome letter.

The town of Charlton has a rural character which the local government preserves as one of the town’s appealing features.
